Moody Campus Radio Station History

Under the direction of Professor Jim Kragel, Moody Campus Radio first began “broadcasting” in the mid 1980’s.  The station has had several names before settling on their current “Moody Campus Radio,” including WMSR, C53, and WMCR.  For the last 18 years, the station has broadcast using a weak AM carrier-current system, but in January of 2002, the station began broadcasting over the local campus Intranet.  Paul Butler, current faculty advisor and former station manager (1992) of Moody Campus Radio, maintains that this has been a long time in coming.  “Every station manager since 1990 has been looking for a way to increase the station’s potential for reaching a greater audience…webcasting is finally making that a reality.”

Many Moody Campus Radio alumni are currently working in the Christian radio industry.   According to Paul Butler, “It has consistently proved itself that the students that are involved in the leadership of Moody Campus Radio are those students who leave our program and go on to work in Christian radio across the country and around the world.  This is the most valuable and exciting experience I can offer our students outside of internships.”
